ecoREHAB

Crash Course
Week 1: Journals

This first week of ecoREHAB has been very fast paced. Monday we received the list of spaces and accommodations that were required for this construction and by Thursday we were ordering framing. So far I have enjoyed this process.

Throughout this design process some key words and phrases have been driving forces in our decision making.  Compact, versatility, necessity, and economy are some of them.  Figuring out how to combine them all to their fullest potential is the catch.

We have also been looking at the shapes and volumes that are created as a result of the overlapping and duality of spaces. Figuring out passive systems (and whether or not it is possible in this small of a space) has been interesting. Our group, at first, was looking at an 8' x 8' module in three or four parts to build on. The other group looked at a longer, narrower version of the building and spaces.

The most difficult part of this process has been to figure out all the appliances that we can use in these spaces. Part of figuring that out includes looking at their energy consumption and how these all fit into the footprint of the building. Continuing to look into these appliances will be a part of the next steps we will take to construct this project.
